Experiencia Ostión
Come to live a real oyster farming and gourmet cooking experience, become an oyster farmer for the day. Join Punta Roja cooperative members and learn working with them, everything about oysters, their history, how to sow the seeds, cultivate, harvest, and of course cook them.

The experience starts in the CEDO Visitor’s Center with a short talk to introduce you to the area. After that you will visit an oyster farm property of the “Punta Roja” cooperative, this group formed by “Doña Antonia” and their tree nephews have been producing oysters in the estero for more than 15 years. With them you will learn everything about oysters, working in the farm. You will get into the estero, learn to sow oyster seeds, cultivate, harvest, then you will choose the ones you like the most and cook your choice of this succulent shellfish.

Duration of the tour – Approximately 4 hours.

You can expect to see
• The beautiful landscape of the estero,
• Halophytes (plants adapted to live within a saline environment)
• Many species of birds including American the Oyster Catcher or the Fosters tern
• Marine invertebrates such as Fidler crabs or blue Crabs, and many more
